Hi everyone! It's been really quiet here on the blog the last week or so. After putting away all the Christmas decorations I went on a much needed clearing out/organizing binge. I'm not finished yet, I've made a lot of progress and things are looking better already! But, today I'm participating in the blog hop put on by Therese and Christine. These two great ladies have done this hop for a few years now and it's always great fun. The idea is to urge beaders to try new stitches, or to revisit stitches they may have used once and not used again. This time around the stitch that was the focus of the hop was netting. Then we all had the opportunity to vote on another stitch we would like to work with as an extra. The winner was spiral rope! That's one of my favorite stitches so I was very happy. Here are my two necklaces.
First is the netted stitched lariat. I love lariats and I wanted to stitch one using the netting stitch. The beaded beads that are part of the fringe were the color inspiration for the beads I used. The netting was done with size 15 seed beads in bronze and aqua. The fringe was stitched using bronze and aqua crystals, daggers, and bronze flower end caps. The beaded beads were done a few years ago and I wanted to use them in this lariat fringe. Here are some close up details.
The spiral rope necklace I made is actually a variation of spiral rope created by my good friend Kathy, the owner of the bead store, Bead Soup. She used the new Rula beads as part of the spiral. Rula beads are another of the new two hole beads that are coming out now. Here is my version.
I used a pretty soft pink size 8 bead for the core and bronze 15s along with the Rulas for the spiral. The Rulas were a beautiful iris finished bead and the pink core picks up some of the pink tones in the finish. It was very hard to capture that in the pictures. Here are the details.
So, there you have my entries in this challenge. I want to thank Therese and Christine for hosting this hop. They are two very wonderful people I've gotten to know because of this blog. Thank you so much for visiting me.
Here's a list of the other participants and I hope you visit their blogs and see what they came up with.

Both pieces are fantastic, but that LARIAT... I LOVE the lariat. I WANT the lariat!
ReplyDeleteI am I line after Sherri for the lariat.....my nose was plastered to the screen. Oh my I love that necklace. You Rock!
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous. I guess I'm third in line for your lariat. I love the look of it and I know it feels amazing on. I love the fringe and the beaded beads. It's just an amazing piece.
ReplyDeleteI love your spiral rope also. I've used superduos in a spiral, but not the same way you did. My nose is plastered to the screen trying to figure it out. :)
Oh my gosh Maryanne, your lariat is absolutely to die for, I love it so much. The spiral necklace is very pretty as well love the colors.
ReplyDeleteI think the lariat should do a blog tour...we all sign up for a month with the lariat and at the end of the month we mail it to the next person on the list who gets to wear it for 30 days. That is an incredibly gorgeous piece! What a lot of time, detail and beads went into that. The rope itself is a knock out but then the fringy ends...I don't know what to say. The spiral is fantastic~the dimension and the colors make this one a show stopper as well. It excites me to no end to see what you have been up to, Maryanne. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOh my... that lariat is amazing! I'm sort of stunned by the amount of work that must've taken even knowing you had the beaded beads done. Love the spiral colors too - that pink is perfect!
ReplyDeleteOk, huge hats off to you for netting that lariat in 15's!!!! It is just a stunning piece, and I adore the beaded beads, and all the lovelies that are in the fringe. One of the best things I like about the spiral is how very different it can look, depending on the beads used. I like how well the pink core beads show up. Well done!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting what you did with the rulla beads. I love new ideas.
ReplyDeleteThe net lariat is so clever. I am drooling.
Well, I don't know how you do it Maryanne - every piece of jewelry you make is exactly what I would choose to wear myself! These two are absolutely beautiful and I am so very impressed with your amazing beading skills!
ReplyDeleteBoth of your pieces are unique and beautiful. The spiral rope with the pink beads is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteOMG Boink...!!!! (That's my jaw hitting the table). These are totally amazing!!! Not being a jewelry person, I am in complete awe how anybody could actually make something like this. They are truly incredible!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Maryanne,
ReplyDeleteNow that I have picked my jaw up off of the key board I can say thank you so much for participating again in mine and Christine's ATTS challenge. I love both pieces they are gorgeous the netted lariat is my favorite oh wow the time it must have taken to stitch this one but it is all worth it. The spiral rope is just as gorgeous! I love the pattern of this spiral and that it uses rullas. You did amazing work on both pieces. I hope that you will join in on ATTS 5.
Therese
Both pieces are gorgeous, but the lariat is extraordinary - it should be on the cover of a magazine.
ReplyDeleteI love Therese's reaction - as mine was similar :) I've been dreaming of such a lariat, but I am quite sure I won't have the patience to stitch it up. However, I can enjoy yours - very much! it's perfect in every aspect, a simple 'wow' suffice in describing it. I like your take on the spiral rope too - incredible how everybody created something so incredibly different from everybody else. And we all used the same stitches :)
ReplyDeleteOh my - you are an inspiration. That lariat is gorgeous and must have taken forever with size 15/0 beads. The colors are scrumptious! Thanks for talking about the Rula beads too. There are so many new bead shapes out yet and I haven't tried very many of them but you sure intrigue me with the spiral rope. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMaryanne, you are an inspiration!!!! I love lariat necklaces and this one is phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteCrystie
wow! I love both of these!! the lariat is stunning! that aqua with the bronze is deep and beautiful and all that beady gorgeousness on the ends ..... fantastic! and that spiral - how cool is that? LOVE it
ReplyDeleteWOW you really went all out with the lariat! Fabulous work and that spiral with rulas....Very cool!
ReplyDeleteThe fringe on your lariat blows me away. If I were wearing it I don't think I could keep my hands off of that fringe. Your twisty spiral rope - another amazing piece. Well done!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome Chenille rope! I'm completely in love with those colors.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! That colors in that pink spiral are fantastic - and your lariat looks just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh Maryanne! These are absolutely beautiful! Your pieces are so amazing and simply stunning, my friend!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC!!! The lariat is absolutely gorgeous!!! I could easily undersign all the previous comments ... the spiral is beautiful as well, but can't take my eyes off the lariat!!! And if you consider the amount of time to make such a long rope with 15s ... great job, really!!

ReplyDeleteOMG, Maryanne! This is truly exquisite! Just amazing work. Not being a header, I can't even conceive of the process and time involved in making this piece. Like the others, I'm drooling on my keyboard. The lariat part is amazing and the beaded dangles are divine. Amazing piece of work - kudos to you!
